Community Commissions

Hello all! Haven't had a lot of time to post lately, let alone write. Full-time jobs have a habit of getting in the way of creative pursuits. However, they do provide a bit of financial flexibilty, which is nice.

Anyway, even though I've had to put aside my stories for a bit, I have no desire to stop contributing, and have put my greater financial strength to work for the community in the way of commissions from Arania.

This gave me an idea, as well.

If we as a community contribute collectively towards a sequence every month from Arania (assuming she's open, that is), none of us would have to pay a lot, and we'd likely get some really prodigious sequences.

For example, a 12 page pencil sequence with 2 characters is roughly $216. But if 19 of us pool our resources, it comes out to only $11 per person. Everyone in the community benefits: Arania is paid $216 for her work, and the community is gifted with a TF piece that we all had a hand in crafting (in terms of what we'd like to see, the story behind it, ect).

So, in short, this is what I propose. Respond with the following:

1. How many pages you'd like to sequence to be.
2. Style (choose between Pencil or Ink, since color tends to be significantly more expensive for our purposes).

3. The number of characters you'd like to be in the sequence (more raises the total price).

4. The gender of the character(s).
5. The creature they become.
6. And lastly (briefly), the story/emotions involved.

Afterwards, I'll create a poll with all the ideas pitched, and we can select which one should be commissioned and how much it'll cost. Once the cost is determined, the community can donate to my paypal account in amounts starting at $10, and then I'll commission Arania with selected idea and pay her with the donations received.

It requires some trust from the community, but we'll be getting a lot of bang for our buck, and quite a bit of input.

Now, the only reason I chose Arania as the artist for this is because she's a damn fine artist, she's never let me down, she's okay with most subjects, if you pay her early enough you can see a quick turn around, her prices are fair, and she's an artist I have a pretty good working relationship with. Don't get me wrong, I'm not her *agent* or anything, but I don't feel even the least bit bad in promoting her artwork.

So, what do you think?
And, in the spirit of this proposal, I'll pitch an idea myself:

1. 8 pages
2. Pencil-style
3. 1 character
4. Female
5. Full Horse
6. A woman sniffs a new perfume, and finds the more she sniffs, the more she changes...and likes it. (Emotions: Surprise turning to Lust).

And go!

Oh man the idea is cool but I don't know... there is no real point to it. I mean, since your idea might not make it through to the comission point then what would make it different from just waiting for someone to comission something and Arania posting it next month? Or what would prevent you from saving some cash and comissioning your exact idea all by yourself and be 100% sure that the result will be something you not only want but enjoy? I don't know... comissions are kinda personal and unique to each comissioner's whims.

Re: Community Commissions

Only way itwould work is if
you used some kind of goverment grant model

The collective tf fund" puts in a buck
and you or Ariana toss in three bucks

Re: Community Commissions

Hmm, you make some very valid points, hexen. Maybe it's a silly notion. I just thought it might be a way for the community to work together and be rewarded with a sequence or two that were longer than what one person or two people could fund.

Eh. Maybe not.

Morwalugi,

I kind of like that suggestion (minus Arania paying anything), but I'm not sure I'd have the financial resources to double down on whatever the community puts up. If the community, for example, donated $200, I'd be on the hook for $400. While $600 would produce a mean commission (54 pages, or 20 comics), it kind of defeats the purpose of spreading the cost around towards a common goal.

Yeah I'm pretty sure they're trying to make money here, morwaluigi. However, congrats on being able to write a post properly.

Don't read it as "they're out to make a buck" as I just did, read it as him backing up your point about crowdfunding over solo projects.

Ah, yes, now that I reread it, sounds like you interpreted the right way.

And "crowdfunding"...how elegant, really.

I applaud your ability to condense my OP into a single term that better conveys the overall idea. Thank you!

Now I feel bad for not helping with the idea... let May start and I'll be able to know if I can actually lend a few bucks ^^.

Hahaha yes, sorry guys, I didn't intend to make it sound so sleazy. I only meant to defend your point to the guy who's never coherent.
