You know what I'd like to see for MoS2? Red Son set in America. Have Supes become the Captain America for the US Military for a few months until he realises what a damned terrible idea that was.
...Red Son was less about military and more about politics. And, that would just be redundant, since he's "from Kansas. That's about as American as you can get."

Sure, they were overloaded by their super-senses, but, again, Zod shook that off because the script said so.

And I do believe Superman would have led them away from Smallville and Metropolis, BECAUSE HE WAS THE ONE THEY WERE AFTER! Blast 'em with some heat vision to lure them away. But no, we have to see shit blow up because they had $225 million to spend. And, as I keep mentioning, Superman contributes to the destruction, and clearly gives no fucks.

And Kryptonian air is the kryptonite replacement? Really? Air? And, he couldn't hold his breath to take out the doomsday machine?

Just like Nolan's Batman, this Superman isn't not all bright and charges head-first into an ass-whoopin'.
They not once said the suits protected against the radiation, only the air. They shook off the issues with the powers because they were bred to be warriors, to adapt quickly to their situation. They KNEW they were going to have the strength from the start as Jor-El made clear at the beginning of the movie (which...this is something I disagree with, how the hell would he have known that yellow star = SUPER POWERS!)

And I know who Nam is....Kinda wished he had a larger role, always liked that big mute.

As for the destruction: What's one city when the entire world is at stake? Gotta look at the larger picture.

Like I said, I was under the impression that their suits protected them against Earth's environment and Sun. I don't know about you, but Zod and friends gave off a Kryptonion elitist vibe with their presence. And they were nowhere around Jor-El when he was explaining how the sun grants super-powers, so they would have never known this.

So, Superman should not give a fuck about avoiding a death-toll, is what you're saying? The man with the strength, speed and courage to do what he believes is right should let a few hundred thousand people die just to save one whole world? I call that grade-A bullshit.

Re: Man of Steel Review, Spoiler Free

Gotta say, the action was over the top, and what was expected when Superman and Zod went at it at the end. I actually quite enjoyed the film and found it more enjoyable than Superman Returns. That being said, I do wish it was a bit more than Superman discovering who he is, and then almost immediately forced into action. There was really no change time between a guy with a funny suit, and Superman.

As far as sequels go, yeah Lex would be a great villain if he were done right. (And if Ironman can go toe to toe with Thor in Avengers, an armored Lex Luthor should be able to give Superman a run for his money, especially if Kryptonite is involved.) But I think Lex should almost be saved for the background. I'd say Doomsday, but that will lead to a crappy version Death of Superman story or something else disappointing. Maybe if they want to expand, try going for Despero, Mongul, or maybe even Black Adam.

Re: Man of Steel Review, Spoiler Free

Yeah, despite being directed by Snyder, this reads like Nolan's Batman. Dark, humorless, joyless and not very fun.

Random thoughts that bugged me even as I was watching it:

1) Why focus so much on the fat bully if they never pay that off? Except to promote IHOP, I guess.

2) The Krypton stuff went on way too long. We're there to watch Superman, not Gladiator-El. All we really needed to know... "Planet's fucked, Zod's a dick, bye Kal-El!"

3) My respect for Zod might have gone up if he had Brer Rabbitted the Kryptonians into shooting them all into space, saving them from the destruction of the planet.

4) That family Zod's about to make a nice human flambe? Yeah, he totally did. We never see them again, not even running past the camera. The camera angles used (IE: on the exit) mean we completely should have....unless they decided to stroll down the subway tunnel.

5) Why the focus on the random girl in Perry's office? Did we really need to see that to know how anus-clenchingly horrifying the gravity wave was?

Old Superman/Superboy supporting character. And the random girl is suppose to be "Jenny Olsen", a gender-swapped Jimmy Olsen, but she served no real purpose in the movie; other than being as stupid change.

I prefer to imagine that was Jimmy Olsen dressed as a woman. He's good at that.

Translation then... a character that was obscure who had no real followthrough. It'd be enough to have him in one scene. After that, his character just goes nowhere.

And to make it Jenny Olsen without making her an important character, we have no reason to give a fuck about her.
