There's the flaw right there Beth would have to be a bit younger than 40 along with being younger than her boss. As for the company that plan to shrink the world it could have gone bankrupt sometime after the incident & exposure till it was rebuild from the ground up by a new ceo who would be Beth's boss. As for Vance Kramer he could have pass away somewhere between the original & sequel, but before the company went bankrupt.
