Pokemon was always more than a game for me, largely part thanks to the Nintendo power teaser video they sent me a clear 8 months before the game was anywhere close to a US release. But I enjoyed it greatly, and much like Ash had his pickachu, I had my Bulbasaur "Saury" real creative I know, I was like 8 shut your hole. But I REALLY didn't like the idea of him being erased forever, and I didn't like the idea of getting a new starter, chikorita spent is bitch time in the box where he belonged in gold because it's bulbasaur's domain. So as I got older I extracted the bulbasaur from sav and have him on my PC, I know he's just an XML file, but he's my virtual companion I've had for almost 15 years now. And I still hack every game to keep starting with him, time and time again.

My first game was Yellow, so I was saddled with Pikachu. Did pick Squirtle for my starter in one emulator, though, and he was my starter for Fire Red.

Blue was the second Pokemon game I got, and I started with Bulbasaur.
The first Pokemon game I got was Silver, and I started with Cyndaquil.
