It's actually a pet peeve of mine. I'm willing to engage in mass guessing by the halfway point, or even at the 10 episode mark for long-runners, but any speculation before the main character receives her powers just seems silly.
Just feels like speculating on the ending before the bad guy even shows up on screen, i.e. predicting a movie's ending one minute after the opening credits start rolling (not that it's impossible, of course)
That said, I DO recommend Madoka for anyone who likes a dark and creepy feel to their Magical Girl the third episode REALLY caught me off guard.
Oh, and there's potential for EC too >_>

BTW still haven't found "Sayoko" yet...*sigh* the wait is interminable.

probably an even bigger one. In Narutaru, at least, the "subtle hints" about what was REALLY going on were less subtle (for instance, at one point during the Narutaru OP, Hiroko gets dragged off by a bunch of girls) and had more to do with the main character's outlook on the situation.
Madoka's...is pure delusion. She's already figured out 3 episodes in that this is NOT going to be happy fun smile time. The story seems to be steering her towards making a wish that, instead of fulfilling a "selfish" desire like Mami and Sayaka's, will end up having recursive effects on her own powers. Such as "I want to always be able to protect everyone" could make it so she could pull new powers out of her ass at a moment's notice, since her wish would be unfulfillable if she were dead.
Then again, that's a little happy smile fun time...so it's best to wait and see.
