Hmmm, I saw it but not sure what the evil conversion in it is. It seems seems more petrification to me.

She's transformed and being reborn as a demon in hell at the end, then it cuts in the last panel to the statue of her that was carved by her lover. The statue is just a bittersweet reminder of her former state.
It would've been good if they'd shown a bit more of the demon Mel (and less of the unpleasant stuff), but they were going for an artful approach I think.
