Characters often become almost caricatures of themselves in long-running series. Certain traits balloon, others wither away, sometimes you could say it improves how defined and distinctive the characters are, sometimes it seems like the writing has gone fan-ficcy and lost the ability to be subtle. I think Ah, My Goddess! may have suffered from that a bit too.



Regardless, Kasumi Tendo and Belldandy are both terrible corruptees.

Kasumi was turned evil by an Oni spirit in the 11th Ranma OVA, and did little more than grow little oni horns and play a few mean pranks before changing back.

Belldandy was even worse in the Fighting Wings OVA, she quickly reverse-corrupted the poor little evil spirit that was corrupting her. They gave Belldandy a skimpy evil outfit, and she could've squashed what's-his-name like a bug, but no, she had to use her overpowered goody-two shoes ability to spoil the drama. It reminded me of why I never cared very much for AMG!; always a little too self-satisfied and sugary for my taste.

I like A!MG actually...but only because the author realized the main couple wasn't all that interesting anymore somewhere down the line and started giving the side characters fun and amusing stories.
For instance, the plot of the Fighting Wings OVA is actually a little similar to what Urd went through earlier in the series, except Urd almost destroyed humanity when she did it
It's like Star Trek DS9, and Keiichi and Belldandy are the space station itself

Oh sure, it just gets kind of strange when you end up hoping the main characters will stay out of the way because the setting, side stories and supporting characters are more interesting.

I was wondering about that one, I'm not that familiar with Touhou, though the names of the characters are listed with the pics on Gelbooru.

Name-based transformations are very cool and old-school, just the sort of thing an evil wizard would do in an old fairy story.

Of course it tends to be better for all concerned if the name to conjure with is something like, "Kitty Pryde" http://www.process-productions.com/f...3&d=1334654431, or "Hellcat" http://www.process-productions.com/f...postcount=3175 , rather than "Watermelon" or "Pineapple" or something.
